Editorial, New York Herald-Star, March 22nd, 2179 Transition Parlors Must Be Shut Down Today!
There is no disagreeing that AKD Pharma's Personality Transition (PT)
technology has changed humankind for the better. Since its introduction to
the population at large, a vast number of the aged and infirm have taken
advantage of it to live past their time, and it is something with which
even members of this editorial board have personal experience.
The Transition Parlors that have opened in the Greenwich Village and in the NoHo neighborhoods should be shut down by the city as soon as possible. Here at the Herald-Star we feel the medicinal use of PT technology is the only legitimate application of the technology. The Transition Parlors represent, to this paper, the worst kind of abuse of technology. Indulging in vice until death is nothing new, but we believe that the removal of consequence that the Transition Parlors offer is not something that we, as a society, should tolerate. Neighbors of the Parlors in Greenwich have filled our inbox with countless emails complaining about the raucous partying and more despicable aspects of these establishments. No one likes seeing dumpsters full of human remains, no matter how prevalent the sight of those blue containers has become. Partying until you are dead has a societal cost, even if it isn't felt by the participant; and word has it that people are even visiting the Parlors to clear up skin blemishes before going out on the town. Try washing your face, people! We've also had reports of people using the Parlors after getting a bad haircut. It was bad enough when people started indulging in PT technology for weight loss, but this kind of narcissistic activity is more than troubling. It is too bad that AKD couldn't have implanted morals along with everlasting life. Many will accuse the Herald-Star of tilting at windmills for taking this position, but nonetheless it is the position of this newspaper and its publisher that the Transition Parlors must be shut down and that PT technology should be reserved for the sick, infirm and aged.
