Gruesome Crime Exposes Potential Fault in Personality Transition System

Denver, CO (US) - The failsafe reconstitution lab at AKD Life Extension has been dormant since the widespread adoption of personality transition technology began in 2176. The lab was built as a backup in the event there was some fundamental problem with a personality transition detected in the network of machines allocated for public use. It had sat unused with the exception of test runs until today when Randy Pullman reconstituted, catatonic, in the cloning chamber. The mans appearance in the chamber was a surprise for all involved and once they got him checked into an institution, they went about trying to find out exactly what happened to Mr. Pullman that led to his condition and his appearance in the lab. "What we found was both deeply disturbing and relieving to us at the same time. Mr. Pullman was the victim of a repetitive cycle of abuse using the PT system, and while this shows us that we need to tweak the system to disallow such activity, we are happy to see that his catatonia is a side effect of the repetition and not a symptom of a larger problem with the reconstitution systems." said Dr. Jake Chu, director of PT testing and the man responsible for investigating problems with the PT system. Dr. Chu went on to describe what had happened to Mr. Pullman, "Working with the Kansas City [Missouri] police department we have pieced together the events of the last week that led Mr. Pullman to his sad state. You see, the PT system has a failsafe built into it so that if anyone should reconstitute more than 99 times in less than a week, then the following reconstitution is redirected to our failsafe lab. Mr. Pullman was repeatedly tortured and murdered some 100 times in the last week by persons unknown. This is what triggered his surprise appearance in our lab. It is unknown at this time at what point he entered a catatonic state, but it is not surprising that it happened. The human mind is not built to withstand that great number of transitions, and the devil only knows how many different methods they chose to terminate his lives." Sergeant Stewart Jameson of the Kansas City police department noted that the people who tortured Mr. Pullman were already in custody, noting that the large number of identical bodies was a dead giveaway. "We had a tip from a neighbor who thought it was fishy when so many bodies were being loaded onto a truck from a single level home in the Tiffany Springs neighborhood. When we investigated we found a great number of identical bodies that DNA-matched Mr. Pullman. We do not yet know what motivated the suspects." AKD Life Extension spokesperson Nella Andrews noted that the system was being changed to circumvent such a horrifying crime from ever occurring again, noting that the system will likely be changed to make it more difficult for people to delegate the power of reconstitution station change to others. Ms. Andrews does not anticipate this change getting in the way of the growing PT Travel boom. When asked about Mr. Pullman's catatonia, officials at the Missouri center for Psychiatric Medicine noted that his catatonic state was not one that they could easily treat and that he could be in it for weeks, decades or longer. Mr. Pullmans' wife, Martina Pullman told the Post-Gazette "I will wait for him however long it takes."
