AKD Reconstitutes in Style and Launches a Revolution in Construction
Colorado Post, February 10th, 2185 By Beth Dahlman
Have you been wondering what Alexy Dimitry has been up to? Colorado Springs' most celebrated resident has been working in his basement. He has not been working on building a bird-feeder or staining a door, but rather, he has literally been working on his basement. This basement is actually a very large vault built a mile under his estate near Bear Creek Canyon. There are no stairs or elevator. A teleportation link from Mr. Dimitry's home provides the only above ground access to this space. In an exclusive interview with the Colorado Post, Dr. Dimitry admitted, "the repeated kidnappings of Mr. Pullman a few years ago shook me. As a result, I want a truly secure place for me and my family to reconstitute. I may have gotten a little carried away." During a tour of the facility, Dr. Dimitry showed off his reconstitution parlor as well as some of the more interesting features of what he calls his "Reconstitution Vault". Indicating a broad atrium with soaring high spaces filled with plants and birds, Dr. Dimitry noted that he wanted a place in which he could center himself following reconstitution. In addition to the atrium and greenhouse, Mr. Dimitry's Reconstitution Vault contains enough space to comfortably house up 20 people. "I do admit that I may have over-built this facility. It was more security than reconstitution that drove me to build it. I have received more than my fair share of threats to myself and my family. My personal fortune, along with AKD Pharma's creation of reconstitution technology, as beneficial as it was to humanity, has made me a target for a good number of unbalanced individuals. Therefore I have this space." As with so many things Dr. Dimitry has done, others have taken his lead and begun projects of their own. Noted software industrialist Erik K. Godunov asserts that he, concentrating on creating a truly espionage proof space for doing classified work in, started his vault well before Dr. Dimitry did. "The ease at which we can construct large secure spaces underground [using teleportation technology] has revolutionized how businesses think of space. Why build above ground when you can create a space deep in the bedrock where you can find true privacy." Mining Construction specialist Jerry Carter explained the process they employed to dig vast caverns using teleportation technology. "First we dig a very deep hole using standard drilling techniques. We then lower a pod down with a fairly small teleportation system with a convex shaped port. Once you hit the bottom, you turn it on and start to swing it around while enlarging the surface are of the port until you have a large enough space for a man to hop through. That worker then attaches a larger system until you have created a big enough space to start building out. It's much more complicated of course, but the biggest problem is where the rock you have ported out ends up." Environmental groups find the trend disturbing. Terri van Houton, Western States Director of Greening the Earth noted that, "We've had reports of companies using teleportation technology to dispose of wastes far from the plants and processes that produced them. This makes it very hard for us to track down polluters. That the rich think that this is a good idea illustrates their disconnection from the Earth and her citizens. Where do you think all the rock and dirt that the pull from deep below the planet ends up? Are we the only ones that find this increase in tailings and their associated leach ponds disturbing? Until the construction industry started to use teleportation technology for heavy Earth works, we had seen few new tailings and fill piles being created." The chemical and nuclear manufacturing groups have a different take on the subject, "can you think of a better place to intern nuclear waste than within 100 yards of the mantle? Remember where this stuff comes from in the first place. We won't be hurting a fly if we bury this stuff that far down. I can guarantee you that we'll never see it again."
