Diffusion Violence Cripples Global Teleportation Network

By Xi Orion & UNWS Staff

March 19th, 2194 (United Wire Service) - Explosions rocked teleportation hubs in Amsterdam, New York City, Chicago, Bangalore and Paris yesterday in a coordinated strike that officials are calling a "crippling assault on our transportation infrastructure". Credit was claimed by the terrorist Anti-Diffusion League, a group that was formed in the early 90s by extreme religious fundamentalists and anti-capitalist groups in an attempt to retard the spread of teleportation and PT technology.

Coordinated with the March 18th attacks, a large car bomb was exploded outside the AKD Biocontinuity offices in Colorado Springs in the United States and a man was caught trying to infiltrate AKD founder Dr. Alexy Dimitros' compound. He was killed by guards stationed on the grounds of the compound. Disturbingly, the man did not have a biocontinuity implant, so his death was final and an investigation has been launched to determine the man's identity.

A reporter for the United Wire Service received a note claiming credit for the attackers from the ADL which was confirmed by federal officials and security professionals shortly after its publication. The International Teleportation Oversight Agency released a statement this morning detailing its plan for dealing with the crisis. In their release, the ITOA outlined their schedule for reactivation of the centers, stating: "We have some alternate, lower volume, links already reestablished, and it appears the entanglement pair cylinders need a redesign as a number of them had containment failure during the blasts. It has been discovered that a number of the explosives were placed directly next to the cylinders, which tells us that the people behind this attack knew exactly how and where to hit us."

Regarding the costs of the attacks, the ITOA also noted that: "This will reduce the number of backup pairs to a dangerous level and considering the costs of developing new pairs, we will likely be adding a surcharge to all teleportation use for the next 6 months. We're also experiencing the regular spinning up costs for reestablishing the links. We're proud to say that our advance planning for such contingencies have paid off and that we expect transportation nexii should be back up to capacity in a month or two."

UNWS was able to speak with Dr. Joshua Mendel of the cylinder maintenance team working for the ITOA. "We found that the cylinders that were more likely to be vulnerable to the explosions were the ones that had been in service the longest times under the heaviest loads, which we did not expect. There is no good reason that repeated use of a pair should cause a problem with the cylinders and might indicate a secondary effect of passing high energies through the fourth dimension. We should come out of the failure analysis process with some very interesting results as to what these fields are and how they're affecting the physical world."

Spokespeople for AKD Biocontinuity released a statement indicating that the Dimitros family was in good shape and the car bomb at the AKD buildings did some damage to the Fascia, but no damage to the structure or labs within the building. Rumors around Colorado Springs suggest that AKD had prophylactically installed force fields like those in use on the moon around some of their buildings to protect them from diffusion related terrorism.
